What is Trade Account Checkout?

Trade Account Checkout is a Shopify Plus checkout extension that captures trade account numbers, PO numbers, VAT IDs, and buying-group references as custom fields at checkout. Customers opt in, enter their business reference, and complete checkout through your existing payment setup. The number is validated with your rules, saved to the order as a pinned metafield readable via the Shopify API, and the order is auto-tagged for filtering and export. It is a field-capture extension — not a payment method or gateway. Paired with a Shopify manual payment method, it supports a full pay-on-account workflow: orders arrive as Payment pending and you invoice through your existing process. Requires Shopify Plus; no theme code; live in minutes.

Is Trade Account Checkout a payment method?

No. It's a field-capture checkout extension built with Shopify Checkout Extensibility, not a payment method or gateway. It does not capture, process, or charge payments. Customers complete checkout through your existing payment setup, and the app saves their account or PO reference to the order.

Can trade customers order without paying by card?

Yes, as a workflow. Enable a Shopify manual payment method (Settings → Payments → Manual payment methods) such as "Trade Account" or "Pay on invoice". The customer selects it, enters their reference in the app's field, and the order completes as Payment pending. You invoice through your existing process and mark the order paid when settled.

Does it require Shopify Plus?

Yes. Checkout UI extensions that add fields inside the checkout are a Shopify Plus capability, so the app requires a Shopify Plus plan.

Where is the trade account number stored?

As a pinned order metafield in Shopify admin, visible to your team on every order and accessible via the Shopify API. Orders are also auto-tagged at checkout so you can filter and export them in one click.

Does it work with Capricorn Society and other buying groups?

Yes. It works with Capricorn Society member numbers and any other trade account, PO, member ID, or buying-group number — including NAPA, Repco Commercial, Plumbers Co-op, Reece, Ferguson, Fastenal, and Grainger accounts. The field label, validation, and helper text are fully configurable.

Is it an alternative to Checkout Blocks for custom fields?

Yes. Checkout Blocks no longer supports custom field collection at checkout. Trade Account Checkout is a purpose-built replacement for B2B references: it captures, validates, and stores account and PO numbers as order metafields, configured in minutes with no theme code.
